Genius Hour 3

Were working on our project on how to build a reptile house and make it functional. Were making are box out of a plastic tub. It maybe will have a divider in it, if the lizard and the turtle don’t get along. For the house we are going to need grass, sticks, and food for it to be a stable house. We also need water for the reptiles to drink. We also might have like a little pool for the reptiles to get moist so they don’t dry out. As far as housing goes, bigger is better. Many aquatic turtles are active swimmers, so choose the largest size enclosure possible. Glass aquarium are a popular choice. A 30-gallon tank is the absolute minimum size for smaller species measuring between 4 and 6 inches. For turtles between 6 and 8 inches, a 55-gallon tub is appropriate. And for turtles measuring more than 8 inches, tanks in the 75- to 125-gallon range are a better choice. If you start with a younger, smaller turtle, a smaller tank is acceptable as long as the enclosure size increases as your turtle grows. Some tubs  with both a water and land area are even designed specifically for turtles. If you have the room, another great option is an indoor or outdoor pond. We also are making a website that will maybe have some videos on their on how to build one. It will show are progress on the project. It might have steps on how to build a reptile house also.

Genius Hour 2

We have learned that the turtles and lizards get along good if there the same size. We need to gather are materials for our project. Are materials are easy to get. We have a cardboard box, grass, rocks, and other stuff that is in a reptile habitat. We need to probably bring the reptiles together and see if they really do get along also. We also are going to have to have a food station, and water for them to eat and drink. We don’t really know how were going to build this house though. We haven’t really figured that out yet. I watched a couple of videos on how to make a reptile house, and I got a couple of good ideas. We need to figure who’s responsible for what, and get different jobs for each person in the group. We need to see who is bringing what for the house. We may need to get more materials for are project. If the turtles don’t get along with each other. We figured out a way to split them up. We are going to put a divider in the box to divide them up. Then they won’t be able to see each other. We also making a website for the project, telling about our progress in the project. We may make videos or use other peoples videos on our website. We figured out who is bringing there turtle and lizard. On the website there might be steps on how to make the house.

College Visit

Yesterday, I went to DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College) for a college visit. My favorite part was trying to figure out how to run one of the robots. It was hard to get the hang of it at first. I was really surprised on how many programs they had there, at a community college they had 232 programs I think which was surprising. I think I might go to school there for my first 2 years then transferring. One reason why I would go there is I want to be a mechanic or something like that. They also have a baseball team that I will try to walk on at. There was a lot of buildings on the campus filled with programs. We went to look at robotics and maintenance for our tour. I seen food vendors in trucks selling food out of vans. One was called roadside tacos obviously a taco truck. They really offer any kind of classes. They are partnered with all the Iowa Division 1 schools, like Iowa, Northern Iowa, Iowa State,  and Creighton. The dorms als0 look really comfortable and large for a dorm. They have a nice kitchen and a flat screen TV. They also provide you with a computer.

Genius Hour

For my project Sam, Michael, and I are making a reptile house for a lizard and a turtle. The house needs to be for a reptile environment with maybe grass, rocks, and maybe even water. We have to have food that reptiles eat on a daily basis. We need water for them to drink. For this project we have to have a lot of creativity. All of us need to learn how to build stuff. We may need to know how to make food for the reptiles. To do this stuff we need to research online maybe how to do some of this stuff. So far we have the box that that the reptiles will live in. We will know we have reached are goal when we have a functioning house for the reptiles to live and survive in. It has to be really comfortable for the reptiles. We will ask construction workers for tips on how to make the structure safe enough for them. The floor is probably going to be made up of dirt and grass. There is going to be a hole in the lid for some sun, and for some air. We are probably going to divide the house into two parts. One part is for the lizard, and the other part is for the turtle. The lizard would eat the turtle if they were put together, because the lizard is much bigger than the turtle. That’s how were going to make are reptile house for the turtle and the lizard.

Spring Break in D.C.

My spring break was awesome. I went to Washington D.C. for my break. I went with a whole bunch of students that attend Fort Dodge Middle School. We had to take a charter bus there, the ride took about a day to get there. When we got there we had to pick up our tour guide. The first thing we visited was the The Capitol, and to be honest it was the most boring part. We went in to the congress room. Then we went to the Wax Museum downtown, and all the presidents were made out of wax there. There also some celebrities there to. Then we ate dinner last, and went to the hotel and swam for a few hours then went to bed. The next day we visited the White House, we didn’t go inside though. Then we went to the World War II Memorial and saw the stars. There were 400 stars, and every star represented 100 deaths. The next day we visited George Washington’s house first he lived in Mount Vernon. His house was huge and his house was on the Potomac River. He was buried by his house down a trail, and so was his family. Then we went to the Korean Memorial. Then lastly we went to the Lincoln Memorial. It was huge, and we got to see it at night and it was even cooler. The last day we went to the Washington Monument, and we went to the top of it which is 555 feet in the air. Then we went to the Holocaust Museum which was huge, and it was really sad. Then we went to the Smithsonian Museums, there was 2 of them we went to. We rode the metro subway to dinner, and went to the mall last, then went home.,d.amc

Evaluating My Post

I have a total of 10 blogs I have done throughout the time I have been posting. There were no school based posts that I have done. I have received a total of 10 comments from different people. Some of the comments were just people asking me questions. Then some were just giving me thoughts. When I was talking about animals more people commented on those. I enjoyed writhing the post about popular food in America. It talks about the most eaten food in the United States. No I didn’t change the blogs themes other than pictures. I don’t have any widgets. I have like 8 overseas students listed on my blogs. I customized the heading and background on my blog. The person who looked at my blog said that my blog is neat and creative. What caught his attention on my blog was my blog. What distracted him was all the class blogs on the side. He wants me to add emojis to my blog. I had Michael Schroeder audit my blog.

Animals and Plant and Why We Need Them to Live

Earth has more than 80,000 different kinds of plants that are edible. More than half of our food we eat just comes from 30 plants. 70,000 kinds of plants are used in medicine to help us survive. One percent of rain forests plants have been studied for medicine usage. A lot of earths original forests are being destroyed or are destroyed. More than half of the plant population is going extinct. Plants are going extinct 5,000 times than usual. A lot of plants are used by humans to make food.

Animals can be used to protect the environment. We get are food from the animals in our environment. Common foods from animals are cows, pigs, and deer. They are sometimes models to form procedures and study diseases. They are used for advanced scientific understanding. They protect your home when your sleeping. They also can serve as a friend when your sad or depressed. These animals can be found in the wild like woods, forests, and in your home. There are mammals that live in the ocean and lakes like dolphins and whales. They can be found in different countries and continents.

Gorillas can catch human colds and other illnesses. Ostriches can run faster than horses, and males can roar like a lion. A lion has no more than 20 kills a year, most of the kills come from a female. The only dog that doesn’t have a pink tongue is the Chow. A bat is the only mammal that can fly in the sky. The tarantula spider can survive 2 years without food. Alligators can live a long time up to 200 years. A elephants tooth can weigh up to 9 pounds. A turkey is the most common bird in North America. Cows sleep standing up, and dream laying down. Also cows have 4 stomachs. The smell of a skunk can be smelt from a mile away.

Popular Food In America

In the United States the most favorite food is the cheeseburger. The average american consumes three cheeseburgers a week. thirteen billion is enough burgers to wrap around the earth 32 times and that’s how many Americans eat a year. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers are accounted for 71% for all beef commercially in america.  Considered a “high risk” food because of the poor health under which they are manufactured. The time process for making processed meats creates high bacteria counts and putrefaction of the meat which need to be treated. Putrefaction causes meat to turn green which is then dyed with red chemicals to appear fresh. Unless marked otherwise, hamburger will always contain red dyes. The beef industry is the largest user of antibiotics in the world to offset the dangerous bacteria housed in its meats. This is the growing resistance to antibiotics. When people in the United States eat cheeseburgers they are usually grilled, but some people stove cook them which isn’t that good. The best meat you can get is probably at slaughter house, because its fresh and tastes better. When people go to restaurants they usually order cheeseburgers, because they are good at restaurants. Some people don’t order the cheeseburger, because they don’t like eating that much.
